Good-Bye for Now

With all the (wonderful) chaos that comes with three children, the new lifestyle of carless-ness, and the possibility of homeschooling (eek!), my husband and I have had to do some serious soul-searching about...organization. What we want for our life. How to be peaceful amidst all the demands of family, work, study, our self-imposed creative projects. How to simplify.
As much as I've enjoyed this blog, learning some simple design and photoshop skills, and as much as I've loved starting an etsy shop, they are a major distraction from "real" life.

I decided to take the surgeon's knife to my use of the computer, to free up time for my home and family.

I'm taking a break from computers, from etsy sewing, and from volunteering (I'm always tempted to wade into community projects) for one year. I'll return in June 2011.

By that time, so I reason, my oldest will be a full-blown, rational kid. My 3 year old will be done with temper tantrums and diapers. My baby will no longer be nursing every hour and needing to live on my back. A new rhythm, hopefully more simple and peaceful, will emerge.

It was my own initiative, but it was cheered on by a grateful husband, who perhaps won't be stepping on sticky things on the kitchen floor this year. He is looking forward to having his wife back, and the fabric out of the living room.

See you next June!

  2. Good on yah, Mary. I'm really going to miss your posts though and pictures of the little boys and your projects - they have cheered me on a lot while I've been studying this year! I'll be down to visit you hopefully in early July if that's still okay. I can't wait to see you. Love to you and the boys!

  3. My kitchen floor will always be sticky, but I hope to connect with you more in the future in real life too! Life is too short to spend lots of time on the computer.

    Love to you all!

  4. I applaud your self-discipline. But I will miss being able to peek into your life from time to time. Does this mean you won't be reading that email response I am still supposed to be sending you? I haven't forgotten!
